Lyme disease is a multi-system bacterial infection caused by the spirochete, Borrelia burgdorferi, which is transmitted to humans primarily through the bite of an infected deer tick. Lyme disease has several different stages: first stage (acute/early localized), second stage (early disseminated), and third stage (chronic/late disseminated). Symptoms vary depending on the stage of illness. In early Lyme disease, patients can present with a rash and/or flu-like symptoms. In later stages symptoms can manifest in multiple body systems, including musculoskeletal, heart, brain, and nervous system.
The number of Americans diagnosed and treated for Lyme disease in the US exceeds 476,000 per year.
Ticks that transmit Lyme disease are spreading geographically and are found in half of US counties.
_____
Who is at Risk of Lyme Disease?
Lyme disease can affect anyone. People who spend time outdoors, especially in grassy, shrubby, and wooded environments, are at increased risk of exposure particularly in regions where ticks are prevalent and during times of year when ticks are most active. Infection is most common among children aged 5-15 years and adults aged 40-65 years. Boys aged 5-10 are at the greatest risk.
______
What is the treatment for Lyme Disease?
The first-line standard of care treatment for adults with Lyme disease is doxycycline, a tetracycline antibiotic. Other antibiotics that have activity against borrelia include the penicillin-like antibiotic, amoxicillin, and the second generation cephalosporin, Ceftin. The mainstay of treatment is with oral (pill) antibiotics, but intravenous antibiotics are sometimes indicated for more difficult to treat cases of neurologic-Lyme disease, such as meningitis, and cases of late Lyme arthritis. Additional therapies at our facility can include IV therapies, Herbal and
_____
A research study published by John's Hopkins in 2022 found that even when Lyme disease patients were early diagnosed and promptly treated (a best case scenario condition), 14% of the patients developed Post Treatment Lyme Disease (PTLD). PTLD patients have persistent functionally impairing symptoms 6 months or more following the end of treatment, including severe fatigue, body pain, and cognitive challenges. The results confirm that a Lyme disease infection can trigger PTLD despite early treatment with 21 days of the antibiotic doxycycline.
All Immune Resilience & Recovery Programs are 9-12 months in length.

Did you know that over 80 percent of your immune system is housed in your gut?
The immune system comprises a complex network of organs, vessels, cells, and proteins. The skin and mucosal surfaces create a mechanical and functional barriers to protect against and eliminate environmental debris and foreign invaders.
There are many myths on how to naturally strengthen your immune system which are compromised every day by stress, environment, lifestyles, medications, gut dysbiosis and many things we regularly eat.
Healthy lifestyle factors, including a diversified diet, limited consumption of processed and refined foods, and consumption of adequate dietary fiber, may all promote a healthy microbiomes. Foods and nutrients that potentially boost immune function also tend to promote gut health, once toxins are removed. For example, consuming a diverse array of fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants, anti-inflammatory nutrients, and phytochemicals may reduce oxidative stress, support the liver to promote efficient biotransformation and continued detoxification, and boost overall immune system function.

Mold & Biotoxin Related Conditions
One in four people are genetically susceptible to biotoxins or mold sensitivity. Serious illness can develop if left untreated or treated improperly.
Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) occurs when the body’s immune system becomes hyper-attentive to biotoxins or neurotoxin exposure.
Common exposure risks for CIRS:
Ingestion (Bacteria, Ciguatera)
Infection (Ticks or Spider bites)
Inhalation (VOCs, Water damaged buildings)
Contamination (Fungus, Mold, Toxic water)
_______
Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) occurs when mast cells become chronically over-activated. Mast Cells are responsible for mediating the body’s response to environmental threats, such as allergic reactions, infection, Lyme disease, and mold exposure.
Functional Medicine support can help restore your health and vitality.

Post-Covid conditions are being referred to by a wide range of names, including "Long Covid", post-acute Covid-19, and more.
The term we use is that used in active research -
Post-Acute Sequalae of COV-19 Syndrome, or (PASCS).
Over 5 years ago, we introduced a treatment program for those suffering from PASCS having personally experienced this condition. A syndrome - any syndrome, is a collection of symptoms, in any order or number, that is determined to result from a particular cause, toxin, or illness. In recent surveys, nearly 200 different long-term symptoms have been reported weeks and even months after infection.
______
Our PASCS program benefits clients with:
Fatigue & lethargy
Body aches & joint pains
Difficulty breathing
Loss or change in sense of taste or smell
Headaches | Tinnitus
Insomnia or sleep disturbances
Blurred or altered vision
Mental & Emotional concerns (memory, loss of focus, depression, etc)
CardioVascular Associated Symptoms
______
There are many others, such as chills or fever, and night sweats. One frequently reported are the concerns for cognitive issues - such as memory issues and heightened anxiety and depression. Like many other illnesses, Covid-19 can cause enduring and chronic health problems.
______
Most people with Long COVID first experience symptoms days after learning they had COVID-19, but some people who later develop Long COVID do not know when they were infected. People can be reinfected with SARS-CoV-2 multiple times. Each time a person is infected with SARS-CoV-2, they have a risk of developing Long COVID. Long COVID symptoms and conditions can emerge, persist, resolve, and reemerge over weeks, months, and even years. These symptoms and conditions can range from mild to severe, may require comprehensive care, and can sometimes result in a disability.
For this reason, we've created a treatment regimen for PASCS patients.
We are now scheduling clients for initial in-person assessments and follow up visits via tele-health or in person. Each program is curated to the individuals specific requirements - not simply a fixed protocol.
